The roots of VSC Corporation began with Virginia Sprinkler Company, Inc., founded in 1958 in Richmond, Virginia by Roland C. Giles and V.M. Buck. Mr. Giles, father of the current Chairman, began the company from his office in the Giles’ family home.

In 1965, Virginia Pipe and Supply Company, Inc. (now an affiliate of VSC Corporation) was founded to provide in-house pipe fabrication services to the growing company. Martin L. Giles, now Chairman of the Board, became President in 1972. In 1973, Virginia Sprinkler Company added its first expansion office in Springfield, Virginia, followed by offices in Virginia Beach, Roanoke and Baltimore.

In 1990, VSC Corporation, Inc. was formed as a holding corporation for the firm’s expanding companies. Virginia Sprinkler Company, Inc. acquired the Alarm Divisions of Henkles & McCoy in 1995 and expanded their alarm systems installation and services capabilities. By 1998, the corporation established Virginia Fire Protection Company, Inc. and also acquired Beta Systems of Virginia, Inc. In 1999, a new Richmond facility and corporate office was constructed on the site of the original building in Ashland, Virginia.

John McDonald was named President of VSC Corporation in 2001. Virginia Sprinkler Company, Inc. opened a Charlotte, NC location in April 2002. In July of that same year, the corporation acquired Precision Sprinkler Company, Inc., now located in Garner, NC, serving the “research triangle” cities of North Carolina.

Soon after, on January 1, 2003, Virginia Sprinkler Company Inspection Services, Inc. was established as a VSC company. In February 2003, the operating units of Worsham Sprinkler Company-FSS were acquired by VSC Corporation, and Worsham Sprinkler Company, Inc. began operations as a member of VSC Corporation and now has divisions in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, as well as in Ashland, Virginia. Most recently, VSC Corporation expanded into central Florida with the March 2007 acquisition of Industrial Fire & Safety serving Central Florida.

With a strong senior management team, the original fire sprinkler company has expanded into a full-service fire protection and security corporation serving the mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions. The corporation’s affiliated companies currently employ more than 800 employees in thirteen key geographic locations, have sales exceeding $110 million, and enjoy an excellent reputation as leaders in the fire protection industry.
